Welcome to ‘Wisdom of Old’

Wisdom of Old’ the Spring Issue is live

The Spring Issue of ‘Wisdom of Old is live!

It’s finally Spring; willow catkin on trees, snowdrops peeking through the soil; it’s the awakening of nature, kindled by the
warming rays of the sun. This is a time of renewal. The darkness of winter, it’s quiet and solitude, the nakedness of trees and the barenness of meadows and fields is slowly being filled with the chitter and chatter of birds, the buzzing of insects, the sprouting of leaves, herbs, flowers and weeds. What a revival, with might
and force.
For us as humans too, this time should be about starting new, about beginning things, taking action, making efforts. The forces of the season are supportive at this time of year. You can read about the seasons, the rhythms of nature, those that are our own rhythms, in this issue…

This magazine is meant to be a short break; a calm wandering of the mind, back into a world when mindfulness needed not be mentioned, because it simply was… a normal trait; when the world appeared calmer and happier, At the same time it is meant to be a source of information, of ideas and tools that may permit us to create that world again. A world where hand-made and home grown were valued and treasured still. The ‘Wisdom of Old’, of our forefathers and mothers must not be forgotten, but should be revived.

Autumn is the time when quinces ripen and are ready for harvesting. They are a fruit, somewhat bigger than apples and firmer in their flesh. FEATURED: A curated wardrobe …

When the days are getting shorter, the temperature is dropping and the rain is making a frequent appearance, we naturally retreat into the comfort of our homes. Sitting on the couch under a cozy blanket, with the wood stove radiating a gentle warmth, a cup of coffee nearby and a book in hand. While the wind is blowing leaves around outside, it is such a wonderful pastime to immerse yourself in a story. …

Lifelines:Blessed be the dreamer

My life has been a cautionary tale, filled with hiccups and false starts. Half of my major life decisions have just been wrong – even a muskrat would raise an eyebrow at some of them. Only the blessing of good health has afforded me time and space to belatedly realize I’ve been on some kind of path. …

Knitting & Crocheting – A Timeless Thread

The art of knitting and crocheting is deeply woven into the fabric of human history. From the practical and ceremonial garments of ancient civilizations to the everyday creations of our grandparents, the thread has been passed through generations, carrying with it stories, traditions, and a sense of continuity. When we engage in these crafts, we are not merely creating scarves, blankets, sweaters, and accessories; we are actively participating in a living tradition that spans centuries. …

The lost art of … baking bread

Foraging in the modern world

I have always been a proponent of ‘getting outside’. When I was growing up, we called it ‘playing out’ and we were not in the minority in doing so. Now, the parks I regularly walk past sit empty in the middle of the day, when once they would have been full of kids of all ages larking about with their friends, perhaps kicking a football around or just sitting intimidatingly on park benches. …
